"Who Dares Wins"
"Supra"
This is his story
This story all began with an idea I had to film a
line of video's on training the driving horse.

My Idea was to start from scratch with a new horse
form a sale. I planned to start by going to a horse
auction and filming myself looking for a suitable
horse to take home and train to drive in front of
the camera's, Follow it's training all the way to
the horses first little driving show, where I would
"hopefully" win a blue ribbon and declare success &
glory.
Well that was the plan, but lifes little roads
are not as straight as we like to think they are.
This is still the unfinished story of the path I am
on with this idea of my book, I invite you to
travel along with me on what I am coming to realize
may be a long time in the making but a far more
interesting journey than I ever thought.

I did indeed go to a horse auction, it was in May
2002 at a ratty local horse sale in Virginia.
I took the video camera, I had convinced my wife
to buy the night before and with kids in tow we all
walked all around the sale to see what was being
offered, and if there was anything of promise for
my task at hand.
I had a strict list of criteria that I had set for
myself and this new training project, 3 to 8 year
old, must be horse size 15 hands or bigger!, any
breed would do, but try and stay away from a full
draft, the wilder the better, I thought would make
for some good TV viewing!.

With my wife filming, we walked around and viewed
that there was that day and to my disappointment,
there was nothing! Too old, to beaten up, to young.
A blind quarter-horse, a few wild foals and a lama.
Nothing for poor old Bob this week, I thought.
There's a sale next week & one at the end of the
month, maybe there will be something there.
So, the camera goes back to the truck and lets just
enjoy the auction for the day, maybe come away with
some tack, I thought.
Well like I said, plans are never in a straight
line, at the end of the day I owned a that blind
Quaterhorse! "and" 5 wild foals!!
I have "no" idea how it happened, so don't ask!.
I felt sorry for the blind horse, it looked like he
had been used hard and was in very poor shape. I
honestly thought if I could give him just a nice
few more days or months of happiness before he dies
I'd feel good & the kids could learn something from
it. The poor fellow was as sweet as they come, so
it would be well worth any cost to the poor thing.

The fillies (4 of them) & the colt on the other
hand where fat and fruity! I had gone in the pen
with them earlier in the day, and almost got my ass
handed to me by one of the fillies.
I remember looking at the colt, nice head on him,
very thin neck, "but" there was something I really
liked about him, just a feeling about him I liked.

All of them where wild as hares, never a halter or
a hand on them it looked like. They ran in loose to
the ring. I sat in my seat trying as hard as I
could not to raise my hand and bid, but! at "that
price" a person would be crazy not to have bid! It
would have been "irresponsible" of me not too! And
at the drop of the hammer the auctioneers finger
pointed squarely at me and the horrified look on
the face of my poor sweet wife!

I didn't know it then, but that was the start of
the real story for Supra and me!

Follow the real life story of the "little horse
that could", that I nearly overlooked. From first
ride home, his growing up and training. To becoming
more that I ever dreamed.
The story is not over yet!but come along for the
ride and see if this little horse will capture your
heart like he has mine.

Each week I will add to my pages on "Supra's
Story" for you to enjoy, I'm still thinking of
writing the book, but I really think this little
horse wants more than a blue ribbon. He wants the
world!
